Our Mission
To provide quality service and technical expertise to all residents of the San Juan RC&D area in the use, protection and improvement of the natural, cultural, historical and economic resources of the area, in a manner consistent with all applicable laws and local customs.
The purpose of the RC&D program is to accelerate the conservation, development, and utilization of natural resources to improve the general level of economic activity, and to enhance the environment and standard of living in authorized RC&D areas.
The RC&D program was created on the assumption that local citizens, primarily in rural areas, with coordinated assistance provided through USDA, could develop and carry out an action-oriented plan for social, economic and environmental betterment of their communities.
The San Juan Resource Conservation and Development Area was formed in January 1973. It includes the eight counties (Archuleta, La Plata, Montezuma, Dolores, San Juan, San Miguel, Hinsdale, and Mineral) in Southwest Colorado covering 4,845,000 acres, geographically known as the San Juan Basin.
